Playoffs Ticket Prices

Across the major American sports of football, baseball, basketball, and hockey, millions of fans attend thousands of games each season. A far lesser number gets the opportunity to attend playoff games of the sport they love. Out of the major sports, there are both similarities and differences in the playoff setup for each professional league. For example, the National Football League holds weekly playoff games in a single-elimination format.

The other three major leagues all use playoff series (i.e. best out of five or seven games) to determine which team makes it to the next round (and eventually the championship). In the corollary, teams that make the playoffs are seeded to play each other based on how they performed during their respective regular seasons. This article will discuss aspects of the National Football League (NFL), Major League Baseball (MLB), Major League Soccer (MLS), National Basketball Association (NBA), and National Hockey League (NHL) playoff tickets, including prices, schedule, acquisition, and other associated topics. Check out the football schedule in 2024/2025.

Due to demand, playoff tickets in each sport are correspondingly more expensive than regular season tickets. Also, due to the nature of their availability, depending on the matchup, NFL playoff ticket prices can climb exponentially in later rounds. It’s important to remember that there will always be four (and as many as seven) championship-round games in both the NBA and NHL but only one NFL Super Bowl each year:

Warning: there can be instances of sticker shock. Playoff ticket purchasers may be thinking, “This is the price for one game?” For better or for worse, this will always be the case and prices will continue to rise as years go by.

From the $100 mark, like in any other sport, ticket prices increase and can cost a substantial amount of money if you’re looking for really good seats.

The average price of playoff tickets overall is a little over $300, with prices rising in the later rounds.

Also, what ticket purchasers should be aware of when hitting the secondary market, is that elimination games (meaning games four, five, six, and especially seven) will garner higher prices than games earlier in a series. Score NBA tickets and VIP packages here and get ready for game day.

NBA Playoff Ticket Prices
NBA Playoff Ticket Prices

In general, earlier rounds of the NBA playoffs are less expensive than later rounds. This can vary due to demand and (again) the matchup of each series. A good example is that the New York metropolitan area, which is home to two NBA teams, the New York Knicks and the Brooklyn Nets, has a population of 15 million people. In comparison, the population of the Salt Lake City, Utah metro area is less than 10 percent of that figure (approximately 1.3 million people).
However, cities like Salt Lake that only have one or two total professional sports teams (all leagues) can have a very dedicated fan base, as opposed to areas that have many more teams (the New York metro area has nine including NFL, NBANHL, MLS, and MLB team). As mentioned previously, overall, the average starting ticket price for an NFL playoff game is $270. There are a lot of factors that affect each game, and the price of each seat for any particular game can vary greatly. The range follows somewhat of a bell curve, with there not being too many of either the cheapest or most expensive seats available.
For example, for Wild Card and Divisional round matchups, there are tickets available for most matchups priced between $120 and $180. However, you are much more likely to pay prices in the middle of the range, between $200 and $600. If you are looking for that once-in-a-lifetime experience and money is no object, high-end seats go from $1600 to several thousand dollars. Read more

MLB Playoff Ticket Prices

The cost of playoff tickets generally depends on several factors, such as the teams playing, the location of the game, the seating section, and the stage of the playoffs. For example, World Series tickets are typically more expensive than Division Series or League Championship Series tickets.

In general, you can expect MLB playoff ticket prices to potentially range anywhere from around $100 for less in-demand games in poorer seats, to several thousand dollars for premium seats at high-demand games, such as World Series games involving popular teams.

You can check the most current prices by visiting the MLB tickets website, or through authorized ticket sales platforms. Remember to verify that you’re buying from a reputable source to avoid scams or counterfeit tickets.
